So who am I?
To start with my name is Mark Lamont a fourth generation Australian, living in Perth on the West Coast of Australia. The 7th most livable and most isolated city in the world. Jealous yet?
A few years ago my life was turned upside down when I was blindsided by divorce. The result was my then wife leaving me and taking our teenage trans son, two dogs and the cat.
Due, not to the actions of any individual rather than bad luck and timing, I was forced to incur a considerable debt and narrowly avoided bankruptcy. I am proud to say I hold no bitterness and remain on good terms with my now remarried ex.
Needless to say this is in the best interest of our wonderful son who has had more than his fair share of demons, issues and health concerns. In truth , I cannot complain, I have my house and a well paying local shift work job in the mining/refining sector and get to see my son on a regular basis.
My divorce, like so many others, left me in a haze of darkness, a "Black Dog" as my companion. Sure, I still have my down days, but my journey of rediscovering who I was as an individual, has seen the depths of darkness mostly dissipate and I can safely say that I like who I am.
Part of this journey of rediscovery was my new found interest in fashion and my own sense of style. Along the way, I will admit to some less than ideal purchases and mistakes and my experience has left me with some sage advice for those embarking on a similar path.
So what was the unlikely catalyst of this reinvention? None other than a pair of red suede shoes. Upon seeing the shoes, which although heavily discounted were significantly more than I had ever considered paying for shoes before, it took me 3 weeks of not being able to get them out of my head before I purchased them. They draw a lot of comments and I still love them to this day.
